Assassin’s Creed Valhalla - Paris

Since the 12th of August, we can issue the siege of Paris (The Siege of Paris) in the AC Valhalla-DLC with a vorran country again in a distant conflict. After Ireland, the Franconia goes to Paris. However, the battle associated with it is quite no one who has to beat each Assassin's Creed fan. Why, you will learn here in the DLC test.

This is new in the Paris DLC

  • New, open area
  • New Storytrang of around seven hours (without extras)
  • Infiltration missions
  • Rebel inserts
  • Two new predators
  • New weapons and weapon types
  • New armor
  • a new legendary animal
  • Bear as a riding & raven skins
  • New opponent types
  • New skills
  • New skills

As the main game has truncated with us, you can read here. In addition, we have already taken the first DLC anger of the Druids under the microscope.

Paris must fall to protect the vikings

That's why: The siege of Paris plays in 885, so eight years after the events in the main game. Charlemagne, which is called in the game also called German Section Charles, prevails about the degraded Franconia (France). Religious fanaticism and conflicts with the vikingen living there exacerbate the situation.

The danger that Charles' army translates to England and damages the raven clan, aims to prevent new alliances. So we travel to France, accompanied by Toka and Piers, to assist Sigfred there. However, the leader of the Vikings does not make it easy, as he longes for revenge for his brother Jarl Sinric. The fact that all ends in a siege of Paris ultimately reveals the name of the DLC.

The story maintains with its many good intermediate sequences , which would have liked to be staged more intensively. The contrast also stands the characters. While we get to know some interesting personalities with Charles, Sigfred & Co., there is little comprehensible for his / her established character, but rather behaves as it stands for the story. Rather, it is still questionable that the egg as an intruder in England Charles wants to stop such a way. Double morale greetings.

After all, we can occasionally make decisions yourself. Much of this does not change the story crucial, but in the end, the life of some characters is then in our hands.

The view over the box is marginal: Anyone who expects the hidden, the first civilization and contemporary star, is mostly empty. Although we can discover an abandoned brotherhood house and other little hints, but they do not play a real role in the Paris DLC. This should disappoint a large part of the fans, but also prevents that those without the DLC remain unaware.

Paris not only suffers from a rat plague

With Paris and its surroundings Ubisoft once again created a nice spot of digital earth. While the historical circumstances is a little gloomy, such as the army district and burned settlements, for example, we can lose ourselves again in atmospheric forests and flower fields.

During our exploration, among other things, we can look for treasures and build Steinmännchen. We do not meet (fortunately) on the trivial World events like in the Valhalla main game. For this we can let off steam again in predators and against a legendary animal fighting.

Thus, the Paris DLC almost like the main game , just stop with small extras such as new enemy types (e.g. Patons) and weapons (scenes and one-hand swords). Also a new secret will play a role again, albeit without overview in the menu. More variety, on the other hand, offer boss fights. Although they are not particularly innovative, but do not play monotonous. We do not want to reveal more about spoiler reasons at this point.

The sticking point is in the new mechanics

On the other hand, a little more fresh wind should bring the big innovations. Here, Ubisoft says it well with us, but shoots beyond the goal.

Easy too many keys

No matter what we do in the Paris DLC, always missing a key somewhere. Yes, even the quest around the brotherhood house is basically just a pure key search. The game makes it easy for us with quest markers and the Odin also just to track down the keys, but that's all too uninterrupted and reminiscent of fetch quests. Can not somebody at least part of the doors?!

The infiltration missions fail on the model

With the infiltration missions a touch of Assassin's Creed Unity and thus more Stealth focus will return to the game. In each missions we have to turn off a single target person. As we do that, all we leave to us. That sounds promising, especially since we can trick opponents thanks to found information (e.g., a broken prisoner distracts the guards), but the infiltration missions do not play as varied as hoped.

We do not get a playful freedom here as in Hitman, but at the end it is at most out of the question: Kill quiet or loud? Here would have been more in it, for example by a possible desynchronization if we are discovered. Ubisoft wanted the choice to leave the player * inside, but that also takes the charm.

Rebel inserts that do not motivate

Of course, we are also at the side with eggs to the rebels, because without us they do not really get a lot of the series. Rather, we have to take care of them even in the missions so that we do not lose bonus points and increase our trouble. Because only so we switch rewards like armor parts and recaluations for our rebels, which we can redeem against points.

Too bad that the cost-benefit factor is wrong here. The inserts in which we felt just filling opponents and collect information, just play too generic and throw away too little that would justify the effort. Also, the fact that the inserts are hiding behind a menu instead of being installed in quests is a given chance.

The stupid rats of Paris

The rats actually fit well into the Parisian setting and thanks to the new ability rat plague makes it fun to annoy the opponents with the nags. But these are the rathords into any vaults that want us to the collar, it will be fast annoying.

The idea of putting us with (immortal) rats an obstacle in the way we have to deal with sliding objects or climbing skill, is nice, but only half-garden feels. These purchasing shares are never very demanding, especially especially as we can expand the rats in front of a chest just by attacks to have some rest.

In addition, the beasts look very stupid. Although the limited freedom of movement is wanted, it looks very exaggerated if they suddenly no longer come to egg for a small earth heap. A point that does not do well of immersion.

From the siege to the jerky festival

Compared to the first DLC wrath of the Druids, the siege of Paris is strikingly worse. Although we had to do with small bugs during the test (version 1.030.000), which do not really bother the game flow, one or the other sometimes tore us out anyway.

So we heard in Paris on a place many people according to the rejuvenation, but he was in itself like blank. Also, we had to change our horse in between, as the suddenly stubborn animal was no longer steering, and steady opponents made us lighter.

But much more disturbing was, however, the burdening frame rate during siege battle, which was reassured in a subsequent boss fight again, only to give up the spirit against this opponent but almost completely the spirit. Fortunately, a restart helped here.

Here's for you again the launch trailer for the Paris DLC:

How much does the DLC cost? Single costs Paris DLC 24.99 euros. Together with the first DLC anger of the Druids he is available in the Season Pass for 39.99 euros. The Season Pass is also part of the Gold and Ultimate Edition of AC Valhalla. If you own one of the editions, you have the siege of Paris automatically.

How do I start the DLC? As already in anger of the Druiden DLC, everything starts in Hræfnathorp after the installation. Two visitors have come to our settlement with Toka and Piers, which we have to visit. After a feast, they are persuaded to come to France to stop Charles and his army.

Can I start the DLC at any time? To start the Paris DLC, we must have finished either the quest row of Grantobycgscir or Legracæstercir in the main game. Only then do you also see a letter from Randvi, which makes you aware of the visit and unlock the first quest. The recommended strength for the DLC is 200.
